Introduction to WPTO

World Patent & Trademark Office (WPTO) has upheld a “Professional and Faithful” management philosophy since its founding in 1951 . WPTO has dedicated itself to the patent and trademark practice and has formed a long-standing strategic alliance with more than one hundred renown law firms around the world . In addition, WPTO is a member of numerous international IP organizations, such as INTA, APAA, CIPS, and more . With the basis of relentless efforts of the two late directors, Mr . R . H . Huang and Mr . T . D . Tsai, attorney-at-law, for more than 50 years, WPTO has stably expanded its practice and has established an excellent reputation in the IP field and among its clients . WPTO is currently headed by Mr . Daniel Lee, attorney-at-law, who has proactively invited Taiwan Ex-Patent Examiners and a group of local and foreign high-tech and legal specialists to join its team . In addition, WPTO has expanded its professional services to civil and criminal litigation, technology law, and international commerce so as to better meet the wide-ranging requirements of clients . With the signing of the Cross-Strait Agreement on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Protection and Cooperation between China and Taiwan on June 29, 2010, China and Taiwan will work even more closely to safeguard IPR across the straits . The key points of IPR include mutual recognition of priority right of patent, trademark and plant variety, and establishment of mechanism for collaboration, coordination, and consultation for competent authorities across the straits in cracking down on counterfeits, prevention of trademark squatting, and other IP related issues . More importantly, a communication and consultation platform will be set up for resolving IP disputes across the straits and an exchange of information on the disputes, if applicable, will be provided to competent authorities to shorten the process time for the disputes .
