Each million Shanghai residents obtain 312 invention patents in 2009

According to the statistics of Shanghai Development and Reform Commission, in 2009, 312 patents were granted to each million residents in Shanghai, up 38.7%. Shanghai’s S&T progress contributed 63.8% to the economic development, and its R&D expenditure of GDP is 2.7%, Some 29.4% of high-tech industry boasts self-reliant IPRS, and talents with advanced skills accounts for 23.1% of the whole technical workforce. In 2009, Shanghai 62,241 patent applications, up 17.8%, ranking the fifth in the country; amount that number, 22,012 of which were for inventions, up 23.5%; obtained 34,913 patents, up 42,7%, 5,997 of which were for inventions, up 40.8%.
