Will it finally happen? BMW files to trademark M7 badge…

BMW has filed to trademark the M7 badge in the US.

BMW has filed a fresh application to trademark the M7 badge in the United States, reviving rumours that the Munich-based automaker has plans to offer a full-fat, M-badged performance model positioned above the M760Li.

The folks over at Bimmerfest uncovered BMW’s latest application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, which was made at the end of April 2018.

Interestingly, BMW had already trademarked the M7 badge in the US (way back in 2012, in fact), but oddly allowed the rights to lapse earlier in April. And this latest application seeks to fix that.

Of course, the brand’s application to trademark the badge by no means guarantees that it actually has plans to build an M7. But if a new flagship 7 Series is on the cards, BMW certainly has a couple of viable options in terms of powerplants.
