As of July 2010, China’s number of applications for trademark registration reached 7.702 million. There are 4.956 million registered trademarks and 4.022 million living registered trademarks in total, sweeping No.1 of numbers of application, applications examined and living registered trademark, according to the 2010 China trademark annual meeting and a forum on propelling the implementation of trademark strategy and promoting the transformation of development on September 1, Xining, Qinghai.
China’s examination period for trademark is cut to 17 months. As of July 2010, China had cumulatively registered 854,000 agricultural product trademarks and 866 GIs. Chinese nationals filed 780 applications under the Madrid international registration system for trademarks through Trademark Office, amounting to the total of 10,501 which made China rank eighth and top 1 among developing countries for five consecutive years.
